Feature Film : Chanel No. 5 Set : The Costume Design

Probably one of my favorite parts of this film, the fashion! Catherine Martin has worked alongside Baz Luhrmann on many films including the costume design for The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge.

Home Away From Home : F. Scott Fitzgerald Suite

The Fitzgerald Suite in New York City’s Plaza Hotel was designed by the Oscar winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin of 2013’s The Great Gatsby (only fitting). The linens in the suite are embroidered with Jay Gatsby’s monogram, which is locked inside a daisy motif representing his long lost love. This suite is stocked with vintage board games and custom made Tiffany & Co. playing cards (F. Scott Fitzgerald was one of their biggest clients). Take a tour of the modern 1920’s!

Today we are saddened and shocked by the death of 82 year-old legendary designer, Oscar de la Renta. Oscar passed away in his home in Kent, Connecticut – and while no cause of death has been revealed, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. The death yesterday comes less than a month after Amal Alamuddin Clooney wore his dress for her wedding to George Clooney on September 27.

A week ago it was announced that former Nina Ricci designer Peter Copping had been appointed as creative director of the Oscar de la Renta label. Oscar told WWD “I am very happy Peter has agreed to join us. He is a great talent and along with our shared design sensibilities, we both have curiosity about the wider world, from music and art to architecture and gardens. My hope is that, in leading this selection, and actively participating in the transition, I can ensure the right decision future for out company and brand.”

It is truly too soon for Oscar to leave our world, but we are certain the angels are now the best dressed!
